3-2-1 Reflections
My Chingay 2016 Reflections
3 things I found out:
1.I found out about the benefits and negative impacts of the policies.
2.I found out that Singapore had once instilled the 2-child policy.
3.I found out that China abandoned the one-child policy last year.
2 perceptions I have gained:
1.I feel that the one-child policy is not nude as it has many negative impacts on the people.
2.I feel that we should find out about the people's views before we implement any new policy.
1 question that I have:
Did any other countries apart from Singapore and China implemented these policies?
My Chingay 2016 Reflections
In my opinion,I think that the purpose of Chingay 2016 is to celebrate the different races around the world. Also,Chingay 2016 marks the first year of Singapore’s next 50 years to go towards SG100 and therefore the theme of Chingay 2016 is “Lights of Legacy, Brighter Singapore”.The theme is inspired by the legacy of our Founding Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, and the values embodied by our Pioneers such as Racial Harmony and Social Cohesion, Caring Community, Resilience as a Nation, Can-Do Singapore Spirit and Uphold high moral values so as to move together towards a Singapore, brighter future.
Chingay's first street parade was on the 4th February 1973,where the PA teamed up with the Singapore National Pugilistic Federation, for a grand show in the Year of Ox.In 1976,Chingay took on a multicultural flavor.Lastly,in 1987,Chingay featured its first foreign group when the city's main English newspaper,The Straits Times, sponsored four pop singers from Tokyo.Since then, this signature event had extended invitations to international artistes and troupes. All of the above has shown the changes of Chingay from its first street parade to the present one.
A few days before going to the Chingay parade on 27th January, we were shown videos about Chingay and a short introduction about Chingay, how it is being prepared and also the history of Chingay. After the brief introduction, I learnt that Chingay was first held on 4th February 1973 partly as a result of the ban on firecrackers. This also made me felt even more excited to go to watch Chingay live as I had always only been able to watch Chingay at home on the television. From this short introduction, I learnt about the hardwork that the volunteers and performers has put in for this great performance.
On the 30th
of January, the whole cohort of year 2 went to watch the Chingay parade at the
F1 pit building. When we reached the F1 pit building,I saw many students from
many different primary and secondary schools coming to watch the performance. There
were also volunteers who gave us a warm welcome to the parade. From the
introduction previously, I knew that these volunteers had sacrificed their time
after a whole day of work and school just to help out with the parade. The
volunteers then passed out goodie bags to us and as well as directed us to our
designated seats. Our class was very lucky as we were seated high up and also
somewhere in the centre, giving us a bird’s eye view of the parade.
This parade was
put up by people from different countries and different races. I felt that the parade
was really awesome and the feeling of watching it live was also very different
from watching it on the television at home. There were many performances such as
the LED dragons, dances by different ethnic groups and also all the beautifully
decorated cars and many many more .But the performance that I felt that was the
most amazing was the performance done by people who were lifted up into the sky. This
is because I felt very amazed that those performers were still able to perform
so elegantly, like they are on the ground, high up in the sky, taking the risks
and putting their lives in danger with all the accidents that can happen.
Another
performance which I enjoyed was the finale. All the performers came together,
with all the audiences waving their glowsticks, sang the songs for this year’s
Chingay. The beautiful fireworks also added on to the atmosphere during the
finale, enhancing the festive feeling. Over this night, I really felt
singaporeans coming together as a nation to show our Singapore’s spirit. This was
truly a night to remember.
After one night
watching the Chingay parade, I truly hope that Chingay would not be taken away,
be it 50,100 or even 150 years later, as Chingay holds the traditional culture and festive atmosphere.

I feel that the organizers and everyone who were part of the
performance have made Chingay a success. They brought out Singapore’s racial
harmony and equality between the different races and nationalities. As said in
our national pledge, ”regardless of race, language or religion,”.
Through the
parade, I learnt about all the hardwork and effort put in by many people to
design and make the costumes for all the performers and also the floats. The spirit
of each and every one of the performers were truly displayed. This definitely
needed a lot of effort, time, and sacrifices like what the school and I did for
the RV60 performance
Does being rich means that you are happy?
Even though Singapore is a relatively prosperous country, but many people are not happy. Why?This is because Singaporeans are always complaining about things when some country might not even have those things. For example,we are always complaining about the MRT breaking down when some countries might not even have MRT?.Most Singaporeans are discontented and are always complaining about things even when the matter is very minor.I feel that we are taking a lot of things in Singapore for granted as people are always complaining when we already have so much facilities in Singapore.Examples are MRT,public buses and our Changi Airport. Our Changi Airport was voted the world's top airport in 2014 and we are still complaining so much.I feel that we are not happy even though we are a relatively prosperous country. This is because we take the things we have for granted while the people in other countries who are not that well-to-do compared to us Singaporeans, they are happier as they have gone through hardships and therefore know how to be thankful of whatever they have.
The happiest country in Asia is a small country called Bhutan. It is located in South East Asia and in fact,Bhutan is one of the poorest and less developed countries in the world. However, all these has not bothered the people living in Bhutan, thus they are able to lead a happy and simple life in their country.
RV60 Reflection
Looking back at the days when we were all in school practicing for RV60,I feel that actually all the complains about being very tired, going home late and having to rush our homework were actually not very necessary. This is because we all had a lot of fun with each other during the practices, whether it was during the December holidays or after school in January.I feel that the actual problems that we were facing is to rehearse under the hot sun and thus causing all the complains.
RV60 is definitely one of the most important events in RV.It is not only the celebration of the 60th anniversary of River Valley High School,it also signifies the hard work that all the students of RV,in the past and currently, that has been put in to make River Valley Hogh School such a wonderful school to be in.After being part of the RV60 performance,I really felt very proud to be an Rvian. Also,to be honest, the performance was really very awesome.
Introduction
My name is Lee Yew Joe from class 2K.I was born in Singapore on 12 July 2002.My hobbies are playing soccer and basketball with my friends and also I like to play games that involves strategizing. My favorite subjects are Math and History.Math because to me,it feels much easier to understand compared to the other subjects.History because the skills being taught can be applied in our everyday life. For example, the subject,History, teaches us to infer about different things as inferring is a skill that everyone should have.My personal goals for the year 2016 is to get 3.4 GPA and at least a B4 for my Chinese.I am looking forward to the upcoming OELP as I feel that it is going to be a fun and exciting trip with my class and especially my group mates.
